The Bumble dates back some 500 years when they were used as trout fishing flies being fished in the dapping style and also as wet flies on horse hair lines.
A great exponent of this fly was the great Kingsmill-Moore, this fly was used by him with great success for many years and he became the creator of many of todays colours. This is one of the most famous trout fishing flies patterns originating on the Irish West Coast Lough’s. This is a killer in at any time of the year, even though it bears no resemblance to any living creature it is taken with great enthusiasm by all game fish.egs that tempt the fish to take.
The hackle is not to closely wound which gives the transparency need for this pattern to be successful. The more modern versions have stiff tightly wound hackles that make the fly appear quite lifeless, instead of appearing to be moving insect
It has survived in flyboxes for more than 500 years because it works.
