This fly is fast becoming one of the most successful salmon flies in the world today. Created by Alistair Gowans, inspired by small crustaceans he had noticed in the trawlers nets whilst at sea, he tied the first shrimp patterns with the segmented bodies he had noticed and made a fly which catches in Russia, Canada, United States and Europe to name but a few places. Many varieties of this famous fly have been made including the Cascade which was tied as a joke and went on to be a very popular pattern. Fish the many coloured patterns as you would normally with the dark on dark days and the light on bright days with some of the fluro colours when the water is peat stained or coloured after a spate.
